NHL Rumors: Buffalo Sabres, and the Vancouver Canucks
Scott Laughlin: “What are you hearing on Brock Boeser, and any of the changes that the Vancouver Canucks might be looking to make?”
Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, they’re listing on him, they’re listing on Elias Pettersson and Jake to DeBrusk as well. There’s certainly a possibility now. Obviously, all three of those guys have no-trade protection, so they’ll have a say in where they end up if they’re moved, but there are going to be options. And I think from Ottawa’s side, they’re going to be kind of combing the market to see what the best opportunities are available to them over these next several days.
The Canucks are going through their rebuild and different, obviously, scenario than, the Sens, but they want to go through it thoroughly, and they want to go through it kind of in the right way, tear it down kind of to the studs, maximize your return on your talent, and grow from there, which is why we’re going to continue to hear guys like Brock Boeser and Pettersson, and DeBrusk.
Do the Vancouver Canucks Have Pieces Teams Want?
DeBrusk already made it known, going back into the season, that he doesn’t want to be part of the rebuild, so it’s not necessarily a trade demand, but it’s kind of an understanding that it’s probably best for all parties if we kind of part ways here, and that’s what they’re working on.
So, whether it’s any of the three, would it shock me if all three get moved this summer? No, be a little aggressive for the new GM in Vancouver, Ryan Johnson and the Sedins, but they’re having their conversations.
They’re going to continue to explore their options, and again, they could certainly partake in a lot of the fireworks that we anticipate this week.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The Vancouver Canucks continue to look to turn over their roster under the new regime. It is fascinating to see the Canucks looking to move on from the contracts the former President of Hockey Ops, Jim Rutherford, signed.
The noise is picking up on DeBrusk, who has been linked to the Ottawa Senators. Elias Pettersson, with retention, could attract some teams looking for a second-line center. Brock Boeser was out the door in Vancouver before he stayed with the Canucks, and has been a target of teams going back to the last couple of seasons.
The saga in Vancouver is not over with player movement.
