Boxing Results: LeAnna ‘2 Much’ Cruz Defeats Regina ‘Rony’ Chavez

Super flyweight LeAnna ‘2 Much’ Cruz (11-0, 1 KOs) defeated Regina ‘Rony’ Chavez (8-6-3, 1 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision to capture the WBA title in the main event on Friday night at the 2300 Arena, in Philadelphia, PA

Cruz was dropped in the first round, possibly suffering a left knee injury, and later suffered a broken nose.

In the first round, a right from Chavez on the chin dropped Cruz for an 8-count from Referee Ricky Gonzalez. Cruz may have a left knee injury after this. In the second round, Cruz bounced back, taking a close round. Through five rounds, Chavez threw more punches, but both landed about the same.

In the seventh round, Chavez landed a right, causing a flow of blood from the nose of Cruz, possibly causing a broken nose. In the ninth round, Cruz came back well, taking the round. In the tenth and final round

Scores 96-93, 97-92, and 95-94.

In the co-feature, Israel ‘Badways’ Mercado (13-1-2, 7 KOs) won a 10-round majority decision over NABF super lightweight champ Branden Pizzaro (20-2-1, 11 KOs).

In the first four rounds, it went back and forth in a close fight. In the sixth round, Mercado had his best round.

In the ninth round, Mercado drove Pizzaro around the ring. In the tenth and final round, Mercado was warned for a low blow from referee Eric Dali midway. Again, he did most of the chasing in a close fight to the end.

The scores were 95-95, 97-93, and 96-94.

Super Lightweight Kurt Scooby (17-1, 15 KOs) stopped Haskell ‘Hackman’ Rhodes (31-8-1, 16 KOs) after the sixth round of a scheduled 10.

In the third round, a right from Scooby on the chin of Rhodes dropped him for an 8-count from Referee Ricky Gonzalez. In the sixth, Scooby overwhelmed Rhodes. At the end of the rounds, Haskell’s corner called a halt.

Middleweight Tamir Smalls (15-0, 11 KOs) knocked out Clarence ‘Mr. St. Pete’ Booth (21-12 (14) at 1:26 of the second round of a scheduled 8.

In the second round, Smalls landed a right to the top of the head, dropping Booth. As he got up, he dropped to a knee, looking like he had a leg injury, as referee Eric Dali waved it off.

Welterweight Tyreem ‘Mobanga’ Haywood (6-0, 6 KOs) knocked out Frank Brown (3-13-2, 1 KOs) at 0:44 of the first round of a scheduled 4.

After a little over half a minute of the first round, Haywood landed a left hook to the body, dropping Brown for the count from referee Ricky Gonzalez.

Featherweight Robin ’Gravedigger’ Ellis (6-12, 5 KOs) was stopped by Keith ‘Tsumani’ Colon (6-0, 6 KOs) at 1:02 of the second round of a scheduled 6.

In the first, with over a minute remaining, a right from Colon on the chin dropped Ellis for an 8-count from referee Eric Dali. In just under a minute, a left hook from Colon on the chin dropped Ellis for a second 8-count.

In the second round, over a minute, a right on the chin from Colon dropped Ellis for a third time, causing referee Dali to wave it off.

The ring announcer was Ray Flores.
