Tennessee loses commitment from key WR Tyran Evans

Tyran Evans is a wide receiver recruit from Cornelius, North Carolina. He had been committed to the Tennessee Volunteers since January, but that commitment no longer stands.

Evans has had a busy few weeks on the recruiting trail, and as a result, he’s announced his decision to decommit from Tennessee.

“After a lot of prayer and thought, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Tennessee,” he wrote on X,. “Thank you to Coach [Josh] Heupel, Coach Kelsey Pope, Coach Joey Halzle, and the entire Vol staff for believing in me. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family.”

This is a big loss for the Vols. Though the 247Sports Composite ranks Evans as just a 3-star and the No. 81 wideout in the 2026 class, On3 is much higher on him. A ton higher actually.

On3 ranks Evans as a 4-star and has him as the No. 29 wideout in the 2026 class.

Either way, the folks over at Tennessee may have a strong suspicion as to where the North Carolina wideout will end up.

He took official visits to Kentucky, N.C. State and Miami over the past few weeks. The decision to decommit came right after the Miami visit and before a scheduled official visit to Rocky Top — which is likely off at this point.

After that visit to Coral Gables to take in all Miami had to offer, Evans raved about the Hurricanes.

“I love this school,” Evans said, according to Ryan Callahan of 247Sports. “It’s a lot to take in. They pretty much just showed me around the whole place and showed me how beautiful it is.”

Mario Cristobal’s 2026 class is ranked No. 8 in the nation and he slowly but surely seems to be building Miami back into contender status in.

It seems likely that the Hurricanes got their hooks into Evans at just the right time, and that’s likely what led to this decision from Evans.

The Hurricanes are looming large.
