When Brandon Lowe is on one his runs, it is such a joy to watch.
The Rays veteran secondbaseman is one such run right now and ptichers beware as the dog is loose.
Lowe has 14 hits over his last 34 trips to the plate, hitting .452/.500/.710 with 2 HR over that span. This past series against the Baltimore Orioles, Brandon Lowe truly made his presence known.
On Monday, Lowe started and collected two hits including a gargantuan blast that statcast possibly errenously list at 426 feet (which would be Lowe’s 2nd longest HR of the season. The homerun came with the Rays already leading and giving them a 5-1 advantage; the Rays would win the game, 7-1.
On Tuesday, the Orioles prevailed, 5-1, but Brandon Lowe notched two hits, including a double.
Then with Baltimore starting a southpaw on Wednesday, Brandon Lowe was not in the starting lineup and with Tampa Bay falling behind 8-0 in the 2nd inning, it seemed like Lowe would get the day off. However, the Rays pitching staff held Baltimore in check and the offense rallied to make it a 8-6 ballgame by the bottom of the 5th inning.
Enter Brandon Lowe.
Lowe would be called upon to pinch-hit for Curtis Mead with a runner on with two outs and a runner on first against Yennier Cano.
Lowe battled with Cano for a few pitches before Cano challenged Lowe with a fastball.
Lowe had swung through a similar fastball earlier in the at-bat and Cano looked to do it once agian, but Lowe was able to catch up this time and sent a no doubter soaring beyond the right field wall for a game tying two run pinch hit homerun.
That would be it for Lowe’s heroics during the series as the Rays fell on Thursday to split the four game set.
Brandon Lowe is already in his 8th season in the Major Leagues and is currently having one of the best offensive campaigns of his career.
Entering play on Friday, Lowe is hitting .266/.317/.472 with 15 HR, registering a 125 wRC+ and 1.4 fWAR over 290 plate appearances. Earlier this season, Lowe moved up to 3rd on the Rays all-time leaderboard in HR (141) and is currently trailing Carlos Pena (163). Lowe is up to 6th all-time in fWAR and 9th in hits.
