Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford on a contract running until June 2030, with an option to extend for an extra season. The agreement brings to a close one of this summer’s most drawn-out transfer negotiations.
The two clubs reached a deal on Friday, settling on a fee that could rise to £71 million ($95.5 million), according to The Athletic. The payment will be made in four separate parts. This move adds further depth to manager Ruben Amorim’s frontline, as the club continues to strengthen for the upcoming campaign.
Mbeumo had been pursued by several Premier League sides, but always expressed a desire to join United. That intention has now become reality, and the Cameroonian becomes the fourth addition to Amorim’s squad during this transfer window.
Breakout season and Premier League impact
The 25-year-old enjoyed his finest Premier League campaign to date in 2024–25, scoring 20 goals and assisting another seven. Mbeumo featured in every league match, replicating a similar feat from Brentford’s debut season in the top flight back in 2021.
His scoring total placed him fourth in the league’s goal chart, behind only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, and Alexander Isak. He shared that position with Chris Wood, underlining his growing stature among England’s attacking talents.
Mbeumo’s versatility was a major factor in the move. Though he primarily operates on the right flank, he has experience across the entire front line. At United, he is expected to partner with Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes in a fluid forward setup.
Player reaction and squad additions
Reflecting on the move, Mbeumo spoke about the emotional pull of joining the club. “As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams,” he said. “The team whose shirt I wore growing up.”
He also praised the project unfolding at Old Trafford. “Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans. We are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”
Along with Mbeumo, United have also added Matheus Cunha, Diego León, and Enzo Kana-Biyik this window. The signings reflect a clear shift toward upgrading attacking options following last season’s inconsistency in the final third.
