Prayers are pouring in after the death of a high school football player at 16.

A high school football player in Memphis, Tennessee collapsed at practice earlier this month. He had been hospitalized at a local children’s hospital. Joshua Henderson collapsed in the heat during practice on July 7.

Three weeks later, he passed away. His family announced the tragic news on social media.

“It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Joshua. After bravely fighting for his life in the hospital, Josh transitioned 7/26 due to complications from organ failure caused by a severe heat stroke,” the family said.

“Josh was only 16 years old full of life, laughter, and promise. He was deeply loved by his parents, siblings, extended family, and all who knew him. His sudden loss has left our hearts shattered and our world forever changed.”

The 16-year-old passed away.

Prayers are pouring in for the friends and family members of the late high school football player.

“We are so grateful for the prayers, love, and support we’ve received throughout Josh’s hospitalization. Many of you have stood with us in hope, and now we ask for your help in a different way as we prepare to lay him to rest,” his family announced.

“We are now shifting this GoFundMe to help cover Joshua’s funeral and burial expenses. Any amount you feel led to give no matter how small will be a tremendous blessing during this difficult time. If you’re unable to give, please continue to share this link and keep our family in your prayers.”

Close to $7,000 has been raised as of Monday morning. Our thoughts continue to be with his friends and family members following his tragic passing.

May the former high school football player rest in peace.
