Crystal Palace 1-0 Ipswich Town: Sarr scores again for high-flying hosts

Ismaila Sarr proved to be Crystal Palace’s hero once again as his late goal earned Oliver Glasner’s side a narrow 1-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles have now won nine of their last 11 games in all competitions, but they were made to work for their win against a resolute Ipswich backline on Saturday.

Eddie Nketiah wasted a glorious chance to hand the hosts the lead in the first half, with Sarr and Daniel Munoz also spurning some good opportunities after the interval.

A fine Jacob Greaves block then denied Eberechi Eze from close range as the hosts continued to probe, though Ipswich went close minutes later with Julio Enciso’s effort.

Eze’s cross deflected off Dara O’Shea onto the post as Palace searched for the breakthrough early in the second half, but Ipswich still looked a threat on the break.

Liam Delap forced a save from Dean Henderson before Jaden Philogene had a shot cleared off the line by eventual match-winner Sarr.

And the deciding moment came in the 82nd minute when Sarr raced into the area before lifting a delicate finish over Alex Palmer to seal the victory.

The win sees Palace move up to 11th place in the Premier League table, while Ipswich remain in 18th and five points adrift of safety.

Data Debrief: High-flying Eagles continue to soar

Palace are enjoying a wonderful start to 2025 and this latest win means they’ve now picked up 19 points since the turn of the year, with only league leaders Liverpool managing more (25).

Indeed, Glasner recorded his 17th win in his 41st Premier League game for Crystal Palace – only Roy Hodgson (59 in 182) and Alan Pardew (25 in 73) have won more in charge of the Eagles in the competition.

Furthermore, Sarr’s late winner ensured that Palace have now scored in their last 10 matches in the Premier League, their longest run of games with a goal since a run of 11 matches from January to March 2019.

This is in stark contrast to relegation-threatened Ipswich, who continue to struggle in front of goal, with the Tractor Boys having now failed to find the net in 10 matches in the Premier League this season. They have also failed to win any of their first nine league games from the start of a calendar year for the first time in their history (D2 L7).
