Fans urge Miami Heat to sign former MVP after Tyler Herro surgery news, ‘he’d immediately be the best player’

The Miami Heat received devastating news before the season even begins.

All-Star guard Tyler Herro underwent surgery on his left foot, sidelining him for the start of the 2025-26 season after suffering an ankle injury during offseason workouts.

The injury represents a massive blow for the Heat considering Herro’s breakout campaign last season.

He earned his first All-Star selection while averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game, shooting 37.5% from three-point range.

Miami Heat’s lack of depth at the point guard position led to wishes for Russell Westbrook to sign

Herro’s absence magnifies Miami’s limited depth at point guard, particularly regarding players capable of primary ball-handling and playmaking duties.

Even though they have rookie Kasparas Jakucionis, the franchise lacks proven options to replace his production and leadership.

Davion Mitchell showed promise last season with 10.3 points and 5.3 assists while shooting over 44% from deep, but he has never served as a primary option.

Terry Rozier frequently deals with injury problems and currently faces off-field issues.

The depth concerns have prompted fans to advocate for signing former MVP Russell Westbrook, who remains a free agent despite strong links to the Sacramento Kings.

“He’d immediately be the best player on the Miami Heat,” wrote one fan. “They could use Westbrook’s scoring,” another one tapped in.

“His energy and effort are infectious,” said one fan. However, contractual complications prevent an easy solution.

Westbrook reportedly isn’t interested in signing for the veteran minimum, while Miami lacks the financial flexibility to offer a standard contract.

His production last season, 13.3 points and 6.1 assists, might force the Heat to find creative solutions.

Norman Powell emerges as potential Tyler Herro replacement amid fan pessimism

New addition Norman Powell, who impressed with the Los Angeles Clippers last season, could assume Herro’s role in the rotation. Fans have begun speculating about his expanded responsibilities.

“Norman going to have to play like Tyler last year,” one fan observed on social media.

Season already over. Norman going to have to play like Tyler last year. Average offense and Pat won’t make any corresponding moves. Davion going to have to start and our bench will be awful again. Why wait until now?

However, the general reaction reflects pessimism about Miami’s championship prospects. The combination of Herro’s injury and limited roster depth has dampened expectations for the upcoming season.

“The season is already over before it started,” another wrote, capturing the widespread frustration within Heat Nation.

The injury represents a significant setback for a franchise already facing Eastern Conference competition with limited resources.

Signing a veteran playmaker like Westbrook could provide necessary depth, but financial constraints complicate potential solutions for Miami’s front office.
