The storied run of Devin Booker’s debut signature shoe is coming to an end soon, but before he closes that chapter, he and Nike have an epilogue prepared before moving onto the sequel. Devin Booker recently unveiled the “What The Book” on his Instagram Stories while also wearing the shoes to the Phoenix Suns Media Day on September 24t; Sneaker News can confirm that they’re expected to hit retail later this year with only 1,996 pairs hitting stores.
1,996 is a recurring theme throughout the Nike Book 1 as it nods to Booker’s birth year. “96” can be seen as a key detail throughout every Book 1 release.
The “What The” style is basically a mash-up of colors and patterns that reference past releases; it first started with the “What The Dunk” by Concepts back in 2007, but the concept was later adopted throughout a number of Nike releases. With nearly three dozen Book 1 releases and more Player Exclusives to boot, Devin had plenty to choose from to create this final chapter.
The pair revealed by the Suns’ all-time leading scorer features Safari prints, snakeskin from the Hyperstrike orange release, denim twill from his collaboration with Chevrolet, exotic reptile surfaces, translucent bottoms, the three surfaces from his Arizona-inspired Pack, and much more.
This “What The” Book 1 also serves as a summary of the debut signature shoe’s two-year run while segueing into the Nike Book 2. Details surrounding the second signature model are scarce, although we do know a Spring ’26 release is expected.
