The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will continue to appear on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2030 following the signing of a new four-year contract extension.
Baku City Circuit will return to host Formula 1’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix annually until at least 2030. A new contract was signed between race organisers and the sport over the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix’s previous contract – signed in April 2023 – lasted until 2026, with the latest deal being a four-year extension. Speaking about the new contract, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the unique features which Baku brings to the calendar:
“There’s an incredible energy to the city of Baku and since our first Grand Prix here in 2016 Formula 1 has consistently received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the people of Azerbaijan. The circuit is unique, with technical sections and long straights that run through the stunning shoreline and historic old town, delivering an eventful and entertaining race every year. This renewal reflects the strong trust and commitment between Formula 1, the Azerbaijani Government, and the promoter, and paves the way for an exciting future in the country. I would like to thank President Ilham Aliyev and Minister Gayibov for their continued investment and commitment to evolving the event; Anar Alakbarov and the Azerbaijan Automobile Federation for championing Formula 1 in the country; and the team at Baku City Circuit for their year-round efforts in delivering an exceptional experience for our fans, drivers, and teams.”
The signing of the latest Azerbaijan Grand Prix contract means that every circuit which appears on the 2026 calendar is now signed up to continue hosting F1 until at least 2028, with four exceptions.
Zandvoort will make its final appearance as host of the Dutch Grand Prix in 2026. Catalunya – former host of the Spanish Grand Prix – hosts the Barcelona Grand Prix for the first time next year but its future beyond that is unknown.
Meanwhile, in the United States, Las Vegas is yet to officially sign a deal beyond 2025 but is believed to be signed up until at least 2027. Circuit of The Americas’ contract to host the United States Grand Prix expires in 2026 but, as one of the best-attended races of the season, its immediate future on the calendar is not thought to be under threat.
Verstappen Stars in 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
Max Verstappen became only the second driver, after former team-mate Sergio Perez, to take multiple wins at Baku City Circuit in the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after championship leader Oscar Piastri dramatically crashed out on the opening lap. Off track, Glass Animals and Martin Garrix headlined Baku Crystal Hall as part of the race weekend festivities.
No attendance figure for the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend has been announced as of yet. Of the 24 races in the Formula 1 season, the race has the lowest attendance. In 2024, the three-day weekend attracted a record number of 76,000 spectators.
Date Change for 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
2026 will mark a decade since Baku’s first appearance on the F1 calendar. The track joined the schedule as host of the European Grand Prix in 2016 and has appeared on the calendar under the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in every year since, except the coronavirus-impacted 2020 season. Next year’s race is set to take place on September 24-26 – one day earlier than previously announced.
Following a request from the promoter, the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on a Thursday to Saturday schedule, as a result of the country’s Remembrance Day taking place on Sunday September 27.
