The Chuckie Robinson offense explodes for double digits, Justin Wrobleski has a very Justin Wrobleski outing – Dodgers Digest

After yesterday’s victory ended a horrific two-game losing streak for the Dodgers, a 25-minute rain delay hit the second game of the Twins series. Things went back and forth between the two teams a bit early, but Chuckie Robinson (that’s right) led the offense to pull ahead in the middle innings to take the game and series after a 12-3 victory.

======

With Kendry Rojas serving as the starter for their pen game, Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages started a rally with back-to-back walks, though back-to-back strikeouts by Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts put that in danger. Thankfully, Tommy Edman drilled a ball back up the middle and got a bit lucky for a single after Luke Keaschall couldn’t glove it to make things 1-0 Dodgers.

They also got a lead-off walk in the 2nd, but stranded that chance and that was it for Rojas.

——

For the Dodgers it was Justin Wrobleski on the bump, and he retired the first five he faced before Victor Caratini bombed a 3-1 fastball to left to tie things up at 1-1.

He then issued a full-count walk after Chuckie Robinson refused to challenge two strikes, but thankfully nothing came of it.

——

Austin Voth took over for the Twins in the 3rd and the Dodgers retook the lead on the gameplan of hitting the ball to Keaschall at second. Freddie got into scoring position with a double, and with two outs he hit home when Tommy Edman hit a weird one to second and Keaschall kinda just tossed it between the two fielders for a 2-1 Dodgers lead.

——

Unfortunately things continued to go back and forth. After Wrobo got the first batter of the third, Mookie made an error at short and Byron Buxton doubled to left-center field. However, Andy Pages was there and made a great cut-off and throw to Mookie, who gunned it to home for the second out of the inning.

That proved important after Josh Bell blooped a single to center for a run to tie it 2-2, and another bloop single followed that before Wrobo was able to escape.

Brooks Lee also pimped a foul ball in the inning.

Wrobo then seemed to settle in with the lead (more on that soon), getting a clean 4th inning, giving up just a one-out single in the 5th, and throwing just seven pitches in a clean 6th. He actually ended up going deep in the game, coming out for the 7th as well and issuing just a two-out walk.

Another impressive outing, even if lacking in whiffs: 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 92 Pitches.

——

Meanwhile, with Voth still in the game in the 4th, things continued to seesaw and Keaschall continued to struggle. A tough play but Alex Call reached on an infield single to start the inning.

After an out, Chuckie Robinson singled for his first hit as a Dodger to corner the runners.

That keyed what was a big inning, as Shohei Ohtani followed with a sac fly to get the lead back at 3-2.

Andy Pages followed with a two-out single to put a pair on again, then Freddie and Mookie both singled as well to plate a run each and all of a sudden it was 5-2 Dodgers before that rally ended.

Next up in the 5th, they stranded a pair of two-out singles, including Chuckie’s second consecutive hit. He’s unstoppable.

They resumed scoring in the 6th when Pages started with his second single of the night and Freddie followed with a double for his third hit to make it 6-2.

They didn’t end up getting any more, and Max Muncy got robbed by a leaping catch at the wall to end the inning.

Voth was somehow still going in the 7th, where he walked Alex Call and gave up a single to Alex Freeland to corner the runners before his night ended at 96 pitches.

Travis Adams was up next, and Chuckie got a run home with a safety squeeze to make it 7-2. Adams did stop the bleeding there, however.

Adams also stranded a lead-off walk in the 8th before Taylor Rogers got the 9th and immediately gave up Alex Call’s first homer of the year to make it 8-2. A hometown homer.

After Freeland drew a walk, with one down Miguel Rojas hit for Ohtani and doubled into the gap for another run. Andy followed with his third hit of the game to plate yet another and make it 10-2 before the rally stalled.

After a second out, Rogers couldn’t get the last out, allowing Mookie’s second single to put a pair on, uncorking a wild pitch/passed ball, walking Tommy Edman to load things up, and gave up an 0-2 double to Max Muncy to plate two more and make it 12-2.

Mercifully, after 38 pitches, the guy who started the inning grounded out.

——

With a comfortable cushion, Edgardo Henriquez took over for the Dodgers out of the pen in the 8th, cruising through a nine-pitch inning with a pair of grounders and a strikeout.

Brock Stewart returned to Minnesota and to the Dodgers in the 9th, and he got welcomed with a lead-off homer from Lee to make it 12-3.

After that hiccup, he got the next two before giving up a bloop single and then got a comebacker to end the game.

Most importantly, his stuff looked fine and he didn’t get injured.

======

51-29, two wins in a row.

The series finale will be at the same time tomorrow at 1:40 PM HT/4:40 PM PT/7:40 PM ET, and it’ll be the matchup of aces as Shohei Ohtani will take the mound against Joe Ryan.
