Mark Williams has yet to participate in live 5-on-5 play during training camp, with the Phoenix Suns cautiously gearing him up for the start of the season.
Williams did not play against the Lakers during Friday’s preseason opener.
“This is a little bit different, but I think it’s just more precautionary, just trying to prepare myself for the season like they’ve said,” Williams said on Friday. “It’s definitely new territory for me. … It’s definitely different not playing preseason, but it’s been good.”
Williams has participated in every other drill except 5-on-5 play.
Williams added that he will be ready for opening night on October 22 against the Kings.
“I’ll be playing opening night,” Williams said. “I’ll be ready for that.”
The Suns acquired Williams from the Hornets on Day 1 of the 2025 NBA Draft.
