It’s easy to forget 40 years later, but the bulk of original Air Jordan 1 purchasers were either overjoyed to get a pair to match their Bulls gear or had to make do with Chicago-approved colorways. While there are more potential colorway options than you could possibly wear in a year on the shelves now, as a genuine basketball style, it only made logical sense to outfit Mike’s first signature shoes in kicks that’d match his on-court wear.
Though indeed not carrying that same historical context and legacy, the Jordan Heir has followed in the wake of its namesake to date. It has its own colorful array at its disposal, but “Bred” aesthetics have been its home base, explored very early on into its run and later with a “Bloodline” variation. In the darkest attempt yet, the pair at hand dedicates most of its real estate to jet black, but alludes to that sanguine concept with red speckling on the TPU side cage. A white outsole brings some brightened contrast, as does a gilded Jumpman at the rear. Of course, the performance notes that the Heir has championed throughout its lifespan remain: multi-zone herringbone traction, a drop-in midsole, and an all-around cage for stability.
The Jordan Heir “Black/Red” releases on October 14th in unisex sizing with a $115 MSRP. Keep our coverage handy if you’re aiming to pick up a pair. Otherwise, watch our Jordan Release Dates hub for more on this shoe and all the brand has coming down the pike.
