The Orlando Magic signed free agents Javonte Smart and Phillip Wheeler while waiving guards Jalen Crutcher and Alex Morales. Smart played 32 games for Osceola of the NBA G League last season while Wheeler appeared in five games with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Smart averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per game with Osceola last season. The 6-4 guard shot .373 from three-point range on 209 attempts during the 2024-25 G League campaign.
The undrafted guard has appeared in 18 career NBA games with the Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat and Philadelphia, averaging 2.8 points in 11.2 minutes. Smart has played 95 career G League games, posting 16.4 points, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 31.3 minutes while shooting .802 from the free throw line.
Smart played three seasons at LSU from 2018 to 2021, appearing in 93 games. He averaged 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 33.0 minutes and earned All-SEC Second Team honors in 2020-21.
The 25-year-old also played professionally in Serbia with Crvena Zvezda during the 2023-24 season. Smart will wear No. 17 with the Magic.
Wheeler played five games with Philadelphia last season, averaging 1.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.8 minutes. The 6-9 forward also appeared in 25 G League games with Maine and Texas, posting 15.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in 27.5 minutes.
Wheeler has played 48 career G League games, averaging 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds in 23.2 minutes while shooting .501 from the floor. The undrafted forward has also played professionally in Italy, Puerto Rico and Argentina and will wear No. 20 with Orlando.
Crutcher appeared in one preseason game with Orlando, recording three points in five minutes. He signed with the Magic on October 5 before being waived.
Morales played two preseason games, averaging 7.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 15.1 minutes. The guard originally signed with Orlando on September 25.
