AS Roma star player, Matías Soulé, reveals that although his grateful for the Italian national team approach, his dream is still to play for Argentina. Having a dual citizenship allows the Argentinian to also wear the Gli Azzurri’s jersey, but it looks like he already made his mind up.

The 22-year-old superstar has been approached by Gli Azzurri ever since his talent got spotted during his timw at Juventus. Knowing that he is yet to become a regular member of Lionel Scaloni’s current Albiceleste squad, Italy seems to maintain their interest.

A recent interview with the player’s agent, seemingly indicating that Soulé would be open to play for Italy national seem to spark that old flame again. However, that rumors were immediately shut down by the player himself following his statement to Il Messaggero newspaper.

“I thank Italy very much, but I want to continue working to earn a call-up from Lionel Scaloni. I understand it is not easy, because there are so many great players available, but this is my objective,” Soulé stated.

“I told Luciano Spalletti two years ago that I wanted to play for Argentina, and that remains my thought now.”

Soulé Denied Agent’s Statement

Moreover, the Argentinian also plays down his agent recent statement, claiming that there was a misunderstanding. The attacker revealed that his representative was simply being misenteprented by the media.

“My agent was angry, he said that he was misinterpreted. Nothing has changed from two years ago, nobody has called me, and my idea on the matter remains the same, which is playing for Argentina,” the Roma attacker added.

Although competition is tough, it looks like the 22-year-old has made up his mind on which national team he wants to play for. The player has been doing well at the start of this season, notching up three goals and two assist in six matches for Roma in Serie A.

The former Juve player has some senior callups in the past for Argentina, but is yet to play any international games. However, the has represented Albiceleste in the youth program from Argentina u16 to the under 23 squad.
