Apply today for CSAI funding to support your community program

Field Hockey Canada is excited to announce the opening of the fall 2025 application window for the Community Sport for All Initiative (CSAI) grants, supported by the Government of Canada. Community organizations across the country are invited to apply for funding to deliver inclusive and accessible field hockey programming.

This funding is part of an $800,000 commitment over two years, aimed at removing barriers and increasing sport participation among under-represented groups, including Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, low-income families, persons with disabilities, newcomers, and seniors.

Field Hockey Canada CEO, Susan Ahrens said Field Hockey Canada is thrilled and proud to continue to offer financial support to local communities, empowering them to provide safe, inclusive and accessible field hockey experiences. She also notes how successful the program has been thus far and is looking forward to the next batch of community funding.

“The volume and reach of projects from communities across the country is hugely satisfying to see. This is systemic change in action. Bringing communities closer to Field Hockey Canada as the national governing body and in turn, bringing more people to the sport and allowing them to enjoy the incredible benefits playing field hockey brings to our lives,” Ahrens said. “This funding impacts lives and communities across Canada, building a stronger, healthier, and more connected society. We urge every community to be applying for this support and actively impacting on their local community.”

Three Key Initiatives for 2025–2026

This year’s CSAI funding will continue to support projects under three targeted streams:

Stick Together

Targeted towards underserved groups, Stick Together builds on previous years’ successes to provide field hockey opportunities at no cost. It promotes accessible community sport, fosters social connections, and develops local leadership. Successful projects will offer low-to-zero cost programming for all ages, genders, and backgrounds, and will engage community representatives as leaders.

Field Hockey Canada encourages all clubs and communities across Canada to offer this type of programming and will support them in activating successful Stick Together projects. Proven approaches include school-based programs, local “come and try” festivals, and place-based projects in remote communities.  (INCLUDE EXAMPLES OF PROJECTS HERE)

Walking Hockey

Designed for seniors (55+) and individuals with limited mobility, Walking Hockey promotes physical activity and social engagement through a modified, low-impact version of field hockey. This program aligns with Field Hockey Canada’s priority to enhance opportunities for this underserved demographic, ensuring participation at minimal or no cost.

The organization believes all clubs should be offering this programming and will support communities in launching successful Walking Hockey initiatives.

Hockey ID

This initiative provides safe, inclusive field hockey opportunities specifically for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Hockey ID is an internationally recognized adaptation of the sport, helping participants build confidence, social skills, and adopt healthier lifestyles. Successful projects will identify local leadership familiar with the intellectual disability community to ensure meaningful and accessible sport experiences. Field Hockey Canada is committed to supporting clubs and communities in activating Hockey ID programs across the country.

Key Application Details

Eligible applicants include community-level organizations, including clubs, schools, and nonprofits targeting underserved groups as defined by the Government of Canada.

Projects must demonstrate they are safe, low-to-no cost, accessible, and include clear community engagement strategies and identification of local leaders.

Recipients will be required to complete a contribution agreement with Field Hockey Canada and submit regular reporting. FHC will provide all necessary administrative resources and templates to support this process.

Important Dates:

Application Launch: October 15, 2025
Application Deadline: November 20, 2025

New Website Launching Soon

To celebrate and centralize these efforts, Field Hockey Canada will be launching a new “Stick Together” website before Christmas. This digital hub will showcase CSAI-funded projects, share resources, and highlight stories from coast to coast to coast—offering a home for community field hockey in Canada.

Apply today to help build community, health and inclusion through barrier-free sport.
