HARTFORD – The wait is over. UConn senior center Tarris Reed Jr. will make his season debut Friday night at PeoplesBank Arena when the Huskies host UMass Lowell in their second regular season game.
Reed, who was one of three Huskies voted the Big East’s preseason first team, alongside Alex Karaban and Solo Ball, missed both exhibition games against Boston College and Michigan State, as well as Monday’s season-opener against New Haven, with a hamstring injury.
The 6-foot-11 big man averaged 9.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 19.9 minutes per game after joining the Huskies from Michigan as a junior last season. He was also named to the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, which is given annually to the top center in the nation.
Reed is expected to take over the starting center spot with freshman Eric Reibe and grad transfer Dwayne Koroma backing him up.
The Huskies will still be without a pair of highly touted freshmen in Braylon Mullins and Jacob Furphy on Friday as they both recover from ankle injuries.
Friday’s game against the River Hawks is set to tip-off shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Peacock.
