A wrench may have been thrown into the plans for one of the biggest trade pieces on the board ahead of the NBA’s deadline.
According to Charania, Davis will get a second opinion on the injury, and if he requires surgery, he may miss a number of months, throwing his status for any potential suitors up in the air.
Davis suffered the injury on Thursday against the Utah Jazz. He exited the game in the fourth quarter while defending a drive from Utah’s Lauri Markkanen. Davis grabbed at his hand after the play and sat on the bench in pain before making his way back to the locker room. He did not return.
Davis has seen his name pop up frequently in rumours ahead of the NBA’s Feb. 5 trade deadline, with teams like the Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks identified as possible destinations for the 10-time all-star.
The 32-year-old has remained productive this season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks but has been hampered by a myriad of injuries, holding him to only 20 games.
Davis joined the Mavericks in the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He only managed to play nine games with Dallas after the trade last year after suffering an adductor injury in February.
