Gervonta Davis is once again in trouble with the law. And, once again, the incident in question stems from accusations of Davis mistreating a woman. According to the Miami Herald, “Professional boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis is being sought by Miami Gardens police because they allege he attacked a woman who works at a gentlemen’s club late last year.” According to police, Davis “grabbed the woman by the back of her head, pulled her by her throat and dragged her to a parking garage.” Davis was said to have eventually decided to let the woman go. As of the penning of this article, Davis has yet to enter police custody.
This news is unfortunately not surprising as Davis has had numerous run-ins with the law over the years due to his reported mistreatment of women. “At this time, the Miami Gardens Police Department is actively working with the United States Marshal’s fugitive task force to locate and apprehend Mr. Davis,” said a law enforcement official. “Domestic violence is a serious crime, and the Miami Gardens Police Department remains committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting victims.” The victim reportedly had been romantically involved with Davis but had broken up with the world titlist about a month before the assault in October.
While he’s one of the bigger draws in the sport of boxing, Davis’ bad boy reputation and run-ins with the law are starting to take their toll on his career. Davis was supposed to fight Jake Paul late last year but had to back away because of a civil suit. Anthony Joshua ended up taking the fight – which was seen by a ton of people – and rejuvenated his career by crushing the brash Paul. The civil charge ultimately cost the Baltimore native a whole lot of money.
Davis last fight was a draw against Lamont Roach who many felt deserved the decision when. With the fight against Paul having fallen through and new legal problems rearing their heads, it’s impossible to know when Davis will fight next. The man’s chaotic life is sapping his career, it seems. Although Davis is far from the first fighter to get in trouble with the law, he appears to be the most notorious fighter in the game right now, and for all the wrong reasons. He’s of talented fighter, Davis is. It would be a shame if he were to leave his career in shambles because he couldn’t keep out of trouble.
