Ten days before the first UFC event of the Paramount + deal, the UFC 324 fight card suffered a major hit on Wednesday.

Women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison was scheduled to put her title on the line for the first time against former teammate and former two-time titleholder Amanda Nunes, but an injury forced Harrison out of the fight. The Eagle Tribune. first reported the news.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist suffered a neck injury and will undergo surgery to fix herniated discs. The bout was to serve as the UFC 324 co-main event at T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Jan. 24.

Billed as the biggest women’s match in the promotion’s history, it was to be Nunes’ comeback fight. Widely considered the greatest female fighter of all time, Nunes retired from fighting in June 2022 after successfully defending her bantamweight championship at UFC 289. She’s held both the bantamweight and featherweight titles.

Harrison captured the UFC bantamweight title last June, defeating former two-time champion Julianna Peña via submission at UFC 316. The fight promotion plans to rebook the Harrison-Nunes matchup at a later date.
