Tigers Fill Out Quarterback, Running Back Rooms

We’ve come a long way from LSU having one total running back and quarterback.

LSU’s not slowing down with restocking its roster via the transfer portal, and between Monday and Tuesday the Tigers officially have a healthy amount of depth at both the quarterback and running back positions.

Monday news came out that former Wisconsin running back Dilin Jones is heading to LSU. Jones was Wisconsin’s starting running back in 2025 after redshirting in 2024. He came to Wisconsin as a top-150 overall player in the class of 2024 and the No. 13 running back in his class. He ran for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 76 carries, but was limited to just seven games. His season was cut short because of a turf toe injury.

Jones was Wisconsin’s starting running back in 2025 and figures to be a complimentary piece alongside Harlem Berry and Caden Durham. He’ll have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

After having no quarterbacks on the roster roughly 72 hours ago, LSU now has a full compliment of them. Former USC quarterback Husan Longstreet is indeed heading to Baton Rouge after taking his official visit.

Longstreet was a five-star quarterback prospect in the class of 2025, and was being recruited to Ole Miss by Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr. While Longstreet picked USC coming out of high school, Kiffin and Weis were able to seal the deal the second time around.

I know I’m stating the obvious here, but I’m going to say it anyway: Sam Leavitt is going to be LSU’s starting quarterback in 2026. But Sam Leavitt is also going to miss the entirety of spring practice and probably a good portion of summer workouts. That means Longstreet and fellow incoming Elon transfer Landen Clark will have all of spring battling for first-team reps, and whoever does a better job seizing the opportunity should be Leavitt’s backup and probably have the inside track to starting in 2027.

Lane Kiffin knows quarterbacks and now he’s got a room full of ‘em. And hey look at that, LSU ended up getting one of those marquee 2025 high school quarterback recruits after all.
