Friedman: “But a couple of things. Like so, first of all, I did want to mention one of the more interesting stories I heard in the aftermath of last couple days was, Brayden Schenn accepted a trade to the New York Islanders. And as many people saw, the Islanders and the Blues were actually staying at the same hotel out west.
Well, they weren’t sure that Schenn was going to take this deal. And what happened was the Islanders asked Mathieu Darche and Patrick Roy, could we meet with Schenn face-to-face and talk to him about why he should join our team.

And I told someone that story today, and they were like, there was no way Patrick Roy was letting Schenn get out of that room without saying yes to the Islanders. But it was in that meeting that they convinced Schenn to say yes. And that was the final thing that got that Brayden Schenn deal over the line.
It was a crazy week in St Louis. I mean, someday we’re going to find out, like, just how many deals out of that team were, because I don’t think Parayko was the only trade that was vetoed out of there. I think there were some others.”
Ron MacLean: “Yeah, that was the thing. It’s a favorite day for the fan, for the journalists, I suppose it’s his favorite day. But for the stakeholders, it was a tough week. The Parayko situation, the John Carlson, you know, sleeping and finds out in the middle of the night he’s been traded.
What do you think the fallout is going to be, Elliotte? Do you think the fact there’s 30% of the players with contract negotiated, no movement, no trade? Do you think it’d be a big push to get rid of that? What do you think is going to be?”
Friedman: “Well, we’re still a few years away from the next CBA, but it’s interesting. Like, I had agents and players say to me, like, we fight for those, and we would expect the players union to fight that we still have the option to fairly negotiate those.

And I had some teams say to me that we, maybe we have to be safe from ourselves, but we have to cut these down. And it’s a bit away. But I was told today that in the last, I was told today that there were a few teams that went to the league and said, ‘Can we do something about this?’ And obviously it wasn’t a big enough deal for it to be handled.”
