Kimi Antonelli shines as McLaren bounce back with Oscar Piastri podium – it’s our Japanese GP review

Kimi Antonelli made it back-to-back F1 wins with victory in the Japanese Grand Prix, as the Mercedes man became the youngest driver to lead the World Championship.

Oscar Piastri started his first Grand Prix of the year at the third time of asking and came home second, with Charles Leclerc completing the podium for Ferrari.

Suzuka delivered an entertaining race from start to finish, with plenty of wheel-to-wheel battles as Antonelli fought back from a poor start, while Piastri did his best to keep George Russell at bay.

F1 correspondent Lawrence Barretto and Aston Martin third driver Jak Crawford join Tom Clarkson in the paddock to discuss all the main talking points from Japan.

Lewis Hamilton could not make it two rostrums in a row, the Ferrari man not as happy with his car as he was last time out in Suzuka. He was pipped to fifth by Lando Norris, who had a disrupted weekend with some reliability concerns hampering his running.

As for Red Bull, they had another difficult race with Max Verstappen unable to make it past former team mate Pierre Gasly, and having to settle for eighth while team mate Isack Hadjar failed to score.

There is work to do for Red Bull in the spring break, with Williams and Aston Martin two other teams in need of some inspiration as they look to fight back from difficult starts to the season.

Barretto also delves into the latest from Audi, with the shock departure of Jonathan Wheatley still a major talking point in the paddock.
