Kobe Bryant is a sainted figure in NBA circles, but especially when it comes to the younger generation of stars. Jayson Tatum, Trae Young, and of course, Devin Booker are some of the league’s current faces that cite a personal relationship with the late legend and ascribe their playstyles to watching his Lakers exploits in their formative years.
Book got the chance to square off against the Mamba in his first year of NBA action (coincidentally, Bryant’s last), earning the W to the tune of 26 points. As a tacit “passing of the torch,” Kobe signed a pair of Kobe 11s with two messages: “To the young one” and “Be legendary.” In a host of games since, Devin has planted that latter motto on each of his game-worn pairs, continuing through his own PE of the Kobe 4 Protro that he wore on his NBA 2k cover, and as he earned his own signature shoe with an identically toned player exclusive Book 1.
It should thus come as no surprise that the Nike Book 2 “Be Legendary” continues that lineage, replete with lilac uppers, a glossy black Swoosh, and cement-speckled midsoles. Debuted in a win against the Utah Jazz, this colorway also showcases what could be a new build, breaking from the lightweight mesh of the “Spiridon” colorway and its ilk, yet still presenting as far airier than other synthetic editions like the “Rising.”
No doubt we’ll get further clarification on the material makeup of public pairs as the Book 2 story continues, but for now, this is another sentimental stop in the journey. Catch in-game shots included below.
