Isis Sio Opens Up on Boxing Fallout — and Meta Ban Threat

Isis Sio has opened up about the emotional fallout from her recent boxing ordeal while warning she could disappear from Meta platforms due to moderation issues linked to her name.

The 19-year-old North Dakota fighter, who recently recovered after being placed in a medically induced coma following her bout with Jocelyn Camarillo, addressed fans with a reflective message about the impact the experience has had on her both inside and outside the ring.

The incident in California quickly became one of boxing’s most alarming recent moments. Sio later described to WBN the emotional scene when she first woke from the coma to find her family in tears around her hospital bed.

Isis Sio reflects on boxing fallout

In a message to supporters, Sio explained that the episode forced her to look closely at both the sport and the reactions that followed.

“Boxing has always been a love/hate relationship for me,” she wrote on Facebook. “It’s given me purpose, discipline, confidence… but it’s also taken a lot out of me mentally, physically, and emotionally. And this last experience really opened my eyes.”

The aftermath of the incident also revealed who truly stood by her during the most difficult moments.

“It showed me who’s there when everything looks good, and who disappears or switches up when it doesn’t,” Sio said.

“I’m not gonna lie, some of the comments caught me off guard. People I didn’t expect, the way they spoke, the way they showed their true colors. I see it all. I feel it all.”

Despite the criticism, Sio emphasized that the support she received from many others made an equally strong impression.

“But at the same time, it made the real ones stand out even more. The ones who checked on me, who prayed for me, who stood by me without hesitation. That kind of support hits different and that’s the kind of love you don’t forget.”

After leaving hospital, Sio gave World Boxing News her first exclusive interview as she outlined how she was “grateful to be alive” following her recovery, explaining how simple moments had taken on new meaning after the frightening episode.

Meta moderation concern

Since then, Sio revealed that she may face an unexpected issue away from the ring.

Posting another update, the fighter suggested she could disappear from Meta-owned platforms due to moderation systems repeatedly flagging her account over her name.

“Looks like Meta is about to ban me because of my name again, so if I vanish it’s not my fault,” she wrote. “I guess the only safe space for me is TikTok.”

The comment appeared to reference automated moderation filters that sometimes flag the name “Isis,” which can be mistakenly associated with the Islamic State group.

While the situation remains unclear, Sio indicated the issue has happened before and could result in her account being restricted again.

“I’m not done yet”

Despite the emotional toll of the episode, Sio made it clear she still intends to continue pursuing the sport that shaped her life.

“Boxing is brutal. It will test you in every way possible,” she said. “But it’s also the sport I love with everything in me.”

The boxer ended her message with a clear statement about her future.

“This isn’t the end of my story, not even close. If anything, this just reminded me why I started and who I’m really doing this for.

“I’m still here. Still standing. And I’m not done yet.”
