Aston Villa are now plotting a move to sign Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic ahead of interest from Serie A giants Inter Milan this summer.

With potential Champions League qualification on the way for the second time in three seasons, Aston Villa are gradually beginning to take their seat at Europe’s top table.

Even as PSR problems persist, it could be a summer full of reinforcements for Unai Emery. Names such as James Trafford and Leo Scienza have already threatened to steal the headlines and both would be excellent additions.

Even if that reinforcement doesn’t come without a major exit, which is likely to be Morgan Rogers, there’s every chance that the Villans are here to stay in the Champions League.

It’s not just on the pitch that they’re looking to get one over on rival clubs, either. According to reports in Italy, Aston Villa are plotting a major hijack to sign Muharemovic ahead of Inter Milan and Juventus this summer.

The Midlands club are looking to put European rivals to the sword and could even land a bargain deal worth €25m (£22m) to sign the Sassuolo star.

If Aston Villa were to fend off interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, it would undoubtedly be a major statement and perhaps among their biggest in recent years.

In terms of the player, himself, Muharemovic would also be an excellent addition and someone who would be an instant upgrade on Victor Lindelof this summer.

£22m Muharemovic could partner Konsa

It’s becoming clearer and clearer every week that Ezri Konsa is the one mainstay at the heart of Aston Villa’s backline. He has cemented his place and will provide the foundations at the peak of his powers.

Emery simply needs to prioritise finding a long-term partner for the England international this summer and that’s where Muharemovic could come in.

As a duo, Muharemovic and Konsa could be the perfect match. The former tends to focus his strengths on the ugly side of defending, winning more than two times more tackles than the latter this season.

Konsa, meanwhile, boasts one of the best pass completion rates in the Premier League and would more than make up for Muharemovic’s struggles in that department.

With Champions League football to balance next season if all goes to plan this summer, the depth that Konsa, Paul Torres, Lindelof and Muharemovic could provide would be a clear boost for Emery and his side.
