The Texas Tech Athletics Department has made a stunning announcement about quarterback Brendan Sorsby on Monday.
According to a press release, the Texas Tech Athletics Department has announced that Sorsby will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from the program.

The reason for his leave of absence? Sorsby will seek treatment for a gambling addiction.
“The Texas Tech Athletics Department and Brendan Sorsby announced today that Sorsby will take an immediate indefinite leave of absence from the football program to enter a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction,” the press release stated.
“We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help,” Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire said. “Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.”
Sorsby is one of the top returning players in the country.

He spent the previous two years at Cincinnati. Prior to playing for the Bearcats, Sorsby was at Indiana for two seasons.
In 2025, Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns to five interceptions for Cincinnati, leading the team to a 7-5 record.
Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech earlier this year after being one of the most sought-after transfer portal players.
He is widely viewed as one of the biggest stars of college football for this upcoming season and was set to bring in around $5 million.
