A Career on the Brink
While the spotlight is on the young champion, the subtext of the fight centers on 34-year-old Joe Cordina. The former IBF super featherweight champion is moving up to 135 pounds in what many view as his final stand at the elite level.
Since his 2024 knockout loss to Anthony Cacace, Cordina has labored to rebuild his standing. He enters this July 4th bout on the back of two wins over lower-level opposition, Gabriel Flores Jr. and Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz, but neither performance suggested he has fully returned to the form that saw him dominate at 130. For Cordina, a loss in Cleveland could signal the end of his time as a major headliner, unless he finds a lifeline with the newly aggressive Zuffa Boxing roster.
“I’m going to mess up the homecoming,” Cordina stated. “I’m looking to come over, rip the title away from him, and take it back to the U.K.”
Mason, unfazed by the veteran’s desperation, has embraced the challenge. The champion noted his “appetite for smoke,” signaling that he expects a grueling battle rather than a celebratory lap.
Undercard & Broadcast Impact
The July 4th bill marks a significant shift in the boxing media landscape, representing a joint venture between Top Rank, Matchroom, and major broadcasters to reduce fragmentation in the sport.

Lightweight Prospect: Undefeated Deric “Scooter” Davis returns in an eight-round clash.
The event begins at 8 p.m. ET, airing co-exclusively on TNT and DAZN in the US.
