FSG line up move to sign Liverpool’s new Sadio Mane

Following Liverpool’s Premier League defeat against Manchester United on Sunday, Virgil van Dijk lamented his team’s “unacceptable” season, saying that it “cannot be repeated”.

Liverpool are fourth in the Premier League table, and given that top-five will be enough for Champions League football due to England’s co-efficient ranking, the fact that Arne Slot’s side are 18 points behind league leaders Arsenal is a more accurate reflection of where this club are that.

It’s all relative, and though Liverpool are on track to scrape together the bare minimum, but there’s no question that major improvements are needed next year, especially in attack.

However, with Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak both flattering to deceive, Hugo Ekitike out for the long term after rupturing his ACL and Mohamed Salah quitting this summer, a year ahead of his contract expiry, it will be no cakewalk or FSG.

Liverpool looking at signing Premier League prodigy

Liverpool have lost 19 games in all competitions this season, but their attacking defects arguably outweigh the ponderous and porous defending that 34-year-old captain Van Dijk has been unable to counter.

The recruitment hasn’t worked. That doesn’t mean the struggling signings won’t rise to the occasion next year, but it’s clear that sporting director Richard Hughes has a mammoth task on his hands over the coming months, with more firepower needed in the final third.

Liverpool don’t want to jeopardise Ekitike’s return, and while a right-sided forward is required to replace Salah, an up-and-coming talent may be the best bet on the alternate side.

Enter Junior Kroupi. According to Sports Boom, the Bournemouth forward has been added to Liverpool’s shortlist ahead of the summer market.

Manchester United are currently leading the race for the 19-year-old Frenchman, but the need for attacking additions on Merseyside is great. That said, The i paper claims that the Cherries do not want to sell this summer and when they do, it could be for around £100m in the summer of 2027.

This is a steep outlay for one so young, but Kroupi is the real deal, and his killer instinct and blistering speed suggest he could even be Slot’s own version of Sadio Mane for Liverpool.

Why Kroupi could be the new Mane at Liverpool

Celebrated as “the next Mbappe” by GOAL, Kroupi is only 19. Last season, he plied his trade in the French Ligue 2. Bournemouth’s recruitment is sharp, though, and they recognised the young forward’s potential after he scored 22 goals across 30 appearances for Metz.

“He’s a phenomenon. He reminds me a little of Kylian Mbappe in his playing maturity. He does everything very quickly. He already has good stats for a young person of his age.” – Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Kroupi plays his football with the rarified air of a true natural-born goalscorer. He has actually been hailed as “one of the best finishers in the PL” by Daniel Sturridge – and the former Liverpool bagsman knows a thing or two about hitting the back of the net.

Despite his youth, Kroupi has scored 12 goals on his debut Premier League campaign, starting only 18 times. That makes him one of the deadliest teenagers in the division’s history, and one more goal across the final few weeks would cement iconic status as an up-and-comer.

More impressive is the fact that he has only missed three big chances across the term, and when considering his precision in the danger area and his versatility, competent out on the left or in a centre-forward’s berth, you begin to see why Liverpool are ready to break the bank and sign their new Mane.

Mane also joined Liverpool from the south coast, signing a deal worth around £34m after a standout couple of seasons with Southampton, who were riding the crest of a wave in the top flight back then.

Kroupi’s 12-goal haul this season actually eclipses the ten and 11 goals scored across Mane’s two years at St. Mary’s, and that certainly bodes well for his future in the division, potentially as a budding superstar at Liverpool.

The veteran has confirmed his status as one of the great forwards of his generation, and now, Liverpool have the chance to repeat their old trick.

Kroupi would arrive without the pressure of delivering as the focal point. He would be an adjunct to a frontline chock-full with talent. Maybe his dynamism could even bring the likes of Isak and Wirtz back to form.

If Kroupi can go on to even scratch the same surface of the Senegalese legend in the Premier League, he will retire a happy man indeed.

But this is a talent who has the potential to match Mane, evolving into a player of his own merit but one who carries a similar scent to the Jurgen Klopp favourite who accomplished so much inside Anfield’s four walls.
