Skechers Wants A Bigger Piece Of Basketball. Their WNBA Partnership Brings Them A Step Closer

Skechers continues to make aggressive moves in the basketball space, officially announcing a league-wide partnership with the WNBA while adding rising stars Jackie Young, Rickea Jackson, and Kiki Iriafen to its growing roster of athletes. The partnership arrives during a landmark moment for the WNBA as the league celebrates its 30th Anniversary amid unprecedented momentum in popularity, attendance, and ratings, all of which coincided with a new collective bargaining agreement that saw its star athletes getting paid fairly.

The announcement marks another major step forward for Skechers Basketball, a division that only entered the performance hoops category in 2023. Despite arriving later than its competitors, the brand wasted little time making noise by signing established NBA talent including Joel Embiid, Julius Randle, and OG Anunoby.

Now, Skechers appears ready to deepen its investment in the women’s game at a time when brands across the industry are recognizing the growing influence of WNBA athletes both on and off the court. Adding Young, Jackson, and Iriafen not only expands the company’s visibility within the league, but could also hint at larger ambitions down the road. With signature shoes becoming increasingly important within women’s basketball, the question naturally emerges: could Skechers eventually introduce a WNBA signature athlete of its own?

Although a signature shoe hasn’t been announced yet, the brand does boast a solid roster of options that include the SKX Nexus, SKX Full-Court Press, SKX Resagrip, and SKX Reign.
