The Minor League Baseball season just hit the two month mark last night. The Triple-A season started on March 27th, with the other full-season leagues starting a week after that, and the complex leagues in Florida and Arizona starting the first week of May. Various publications have been updating their prospect rankings since then and this morning it was Keith Law of The Athletic doing the update from his preseason Top 100 list as he published his new Top 50 list (subscription required to read). On the updated list were two Cincinnati Reds prospects and both of them made big jumps up the list, with one of them becoming the new top prospect in the organization according to this set of rankings.
If you’ve been paying attention to the farm system at all this season you’ve undoubtedly seen that Edwin Arroyo has been crushing the ball for Triple-A Louisville. A former Top 100 prospect, his value fell after his 2024 shoulder injury that required surgery and cost him the entirety of that season. When he returned in 2025 he hit for a good average and had solid plate discipline, but he simply wasn’t hitting for any power. In 120 games that season with Double-A Chattanooga he hit just three home runs as he recovered from the injury.
This year he’s been killing the ball for the Bats to the tune of .335/.397/.576 with nine doubles, five triples and 10 home runs. In 50 games he’s walked 18 times and struck out 36 times. And for good measure he’s also gone 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.
All of that production has led to Edwin Arroyo vaulting up the rankings on Keith Law’s list. He was unranked in the Top 100 when the year began and today he’s ranked 23rd. Law even spoke about how the club should call him up to play second base given the lack of production that Cincinnati has gotten from the position this year. We wrote about that here at Redleg Nation a little more than two weeks ago.
The other Reds prospect to make the list is catcher Alfredo Duno. He began the year ranked at #80 on the list by Law, but he’s now up to #35. The 20-year-old from Venezuela was the top international signing by Cincinnati in 2023 and he’s done nothing but show he’s been worth it ever since. Limited a bit by injuries in both 2023 and 2024, Duno was healthy all year in 2025 and won the Florida State League MVP award while leading the league in nearly every offensive category except triples, steals, and batting average (where he finished 2nd).
This season the Reds moved Alfredo Duno up to play with High-A Dayton and so far, so good. He’s played in 39 games for the Dragons this year and is hitting .275/.416/.528 with nine doubles, nine home runs, 34 walks, and 41 strikeouts in 178 plate appearances. He’s doing that while being one of just a handful of players in the league that are under the age of 21.
