We take a look at the favourites to become new Fulham manager following Marco Silva’s departure, who looks set for Benfica.

He leaves following a five year spell in charge, managing 229 games, won 104, drew 42 and lost 83, also the 2021/22 Championship champions with 106 record points, and made Fulham a strong mid-table side in the Premier League despite having a very low budget.

The Times reported that Marco Silva had rejected the offer of a new £7million contract to remain at Fulham beyond this summer.

Instead, the 48 year old has agreed a three-year deal to succeed Jose Mourinho, who had left for Real Madri

We can confirm that Marco Silva will leave his role as Head Coach at Fulham this summer.

A statement read: The Club can confirm that Marco Silva will leave his role as Head Coach at Fulham this summer.

It’s a position that Silva has held for five years – which had made him the third longest serving boss in the Premier League, and fifth longest in the Football League – a spell which was laden with success.

In an open letter to the supporters, Silva said: “After five years, our journey together comes to an end. I leave with a feeling I was told when I first arrived – that Fulham Football Club is a family.

“Thanks to Mr Khan, Tony and Alistair for their support and, above all, for the relationship we built.

“Thank you for the great work of all the Club staff members behind the scenes.

“The players will be left with great memories and moments that we shared together through our hard work.

“Last, but not least, to our fans – I asked you from day one, to always be with us. And that’s what you did these past five years. We achieved a lot together.

“My staff and I always felt your support. It will never be forgotten.

“Fulham will always be in my heart, and sooner or later I will be back at Craven Cottage.”

Shahid Khan added: “Marco Silva leaves our Club with my gratitude and best wishes. Fulham and Marco were an excellent fit for five seasons, but change is inevitable in this game, and we’ve accordingly prepared for this moment.

“The talent in our squad, our historic home ground of Craven Cottage, our faithful supporters, and my commitment to backing the Club, all make Fulham an extraordinarily attractive destination for an incoming head coach.

“We will soon appoint a new leader in a timely but deliberate manner, who will meet the standards of our Club and expectations of our fans throughout the world.”

After leading us to a first league title in 21 years – a campaign which saw us score 110 goals, including three 7-0 victories – Silva helped the Club re-establish itself in the Premier League.

Having twice previously gone straight back down following promotion, Fulham comfortably secured a top half finish in 2022/23 – a campaign that provided fans with their first victory over Chelsea in 17 years.

Earning a reputation as a Head Coach who was excellent at getting the best out of players, Silva led the Whites to three further mid-table finishes in the subsequent seasons.

His time at the helm has also seen the Club break our record Premier League points tally when the team accrued 54 in 2025, while he also led us to four Quarter-Finals across both domestic cup competitions, including a first ever appearance in the Carabao Cup Semi-Finals.

A fiercely passionate and relentlessly hard-working individual, Silva’s impact on the landscape of Fulham will not be forgotten, and he is welcome back at the Cottage as our guest anytime.

Thank you, Marco.

Here’s the social media reaction as the favourites to become new Fulham manager is revealed following Marco Silva’s departure…

@kevintence: forever grateful boss, hope you kill it in portugal

@JLFFC6: Pathetic club. Couldn’t even give him a send off. Run by a bunch of cunts. Tony to go next please, thanks

@EllisCole_: What a disappointing way to end your time as manager, dithered all second half of the season about signing a new deal (clearly had no real intention) & in the end cost us a cup run & Europe. 👋

@FulhamSense: He really deserved more than this as a goodbye. Probably shared responsibility from the club and himself on that front, but a shame nonetheless. I hope he revisits the cottage in some capacity in the future, who knows, maybe one day in Europe.

@FFCeds: Nothing but praise for Marco and what he achieved over the last 5 years. That being said, I think it was time to move on, we were falling behind clear rivals in terms of progress. Looking forward to the future

@ffccyd12: Thank you for everything marco, one of the best managers we have ever had, good luck at benfica ❤️⚪️⚫️

@Taylorffc0: Absolutely gutted what a man what a manger he has been for us. Right time for both parties to move on but will always remember the 5 seasons fondly 🤍🖤

@AmbroseBarnaby: Forever thankful Marco Thank you for all those amazing wins against sides we didn’t expect any from. Thank you for making us a stable Premier League club I wish you the best for your future career onwards to the new manager whoever that will be a new era begins

@ffcLuca: 5 years ago we would’ve all killed for 4 years of prem midtable stability plus plenty of memorable big wins and cup runs. We couldn’t make the next step up, but we should be very grateful for Silva’s time here

@ViscogliosiLuca: A sour sour end to what’s been an excellent 5 years of stability & relative progression. “This does not feel like a farewell”. A very bitter end. Dragged out, fans lead up the garden path & left in the dark. A big shame. But, we move

@zakl99: This is on the owners – this proves they’re not willing to give managers control of transfers, meaning 1) no decent manager will join us and 2) we are going to continue making deadline day panic signings. Great.

@HomesyFFC: The last few weeks have been frustrating, and I’m sure the uncertainty has affected the way we’ve ended the season. But despite all that, now it’s finally confirmed, I’m genuinely gutted.

@Vegffc: One of, if not the best manager we ever have had. Love Marco and will always be thankful for the moments he has given us. He came in and took this club to a much better place. He stayed for longer than most of us would have thought. Obrigado Marco
