Josh Hokit, who has been enjoying playing the heel lately, recently criticised reigning UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.
Aspinall has been on the sidelines after double eye surgery, and to date, he’s not even cleared for contact training or sparring. However, the Brit remains hopeful that he will compete later this year. In his absence, Ciryl Gane and Alex Pereira will fight for the interim heavyweight title on June 14.
That same night, Josh Hokit will take on Derrick Lewis on the South Lawn of the White House.
Before UFC Freedom 250 fight week, during an interview with Chael Sonnen, Hokit, like many others, said that Gane and “Poatan” should be fighting for the undisputed heavyweight belt and not the interim.
“To get the division moving again, Pereira and Gane should be for the heavyweight championship.”
The 28-year-old undefeated American fighter also fired verbal shots at Tom Aspinall for ‘holding up the heavyweight division with his theatrics.’ Hokit quipped:
“You got [Tom Aspinall] claiming that he’s blind now. Saying that he can’t practice, he can’t even drive. Then all of a sudden he’s saying he’s going to come back. Just choose one or the other at this point. I think the division is being held up with his theatrics or whatever he’s doing.”

The Tom Aspinall situation has turned worse since Eddie Hearn came into the picture
Earlier this week, Tom Aspinall’s new manager, Eddie Hearn, called on Dana White to release the heavyweight champion, claiming that Aspinall’s UFC contract and fight purse are far too low for a fighter of his stature.
Earlier today, Hearn also claimed that he will not allow Aspinall to lock horns with the soon-to-be-crowned interim heavyweight champion under his current UFC contract. The Matchroom boxing boss told Bloody Elbow:
“I’m not gonna let Tom Aspinall fight for the kind of money that’s in his contract. To be involved in a fight against Pereira or Gane, for literally 1/50th of the revenue of that show. F*ck that, I won’t let him do it. It’s time that those UFC fighters stop being mugs and start to understand that these people are taking advantage of them. They deserve better. I will tell you the number in time. UFC fans will be sick to their stomach about the money that Tom Aspinall is supposed to get for that kind of fight. It’s not fair.”
