Valter Walker Opens As Favorite For Thomas Petersen Fight In Abu Dhabi

Valter Walker enters Saturday’s heavyweight bout with Thomas Petersen as the betting favorite, with the market moving toward the Brazilian after an early price that offered a larger return on Petersen. The three-round fight takes place at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi as part of UFC Fight Night: Ankalaev vs. Guskov booked for July 25.

Walker is listed around -200 on the average moneyline, while Petersen sits at +167 with RexBet. That price gives Walker an implied win probability of about 70 percent, compared with 30 percent for Petersen. The matchup is scheduled for July 25, with the UFC Fight Night as Walker brings a 15-1 professional record, while Petersen arrives at 11-4.

The opening market made Walker a steeper favorite at -279, with Petersen priced at +200. The average line has since shortened to Walker -200 and Petersen +167, which means bettors have shown more interest in the underdog than the opener suggested, even though Walker remains the clear favorite.

There is a range available across the current market. Walker’s price runs from -190 to -225, while Petersen can be found from +152 to +194. A bettor taking Walker at -190 would need to risk $190 to make $100 in profit; a $100 winning Petersen bet at +194 would return $194 in profit.

The best available number is significant in a fight with a favorite priced in the -200 range. Walker backers would prefer -190 rather than -225, while Petersen supporters should look for a return near +194 instead of taking a number in the +150s.

Valter Walker vs. Thomas Petersen Odds: UFC Abu Dhabi Heavyweight Preview

Walker’s UFC run has made him one of heavyweight’s more unusual finishing threats. He is on a four-fight UFC winning streak, the division’s longest active streak, and every one of those wins came by submission. All four UFC submissions were heel hooks. Walker is tied with Rousimar Palhares for the most heel-hook wins in UFC history, and his four consecutive heel-hook victories are the longest streak of their kind in company history.

That record puts Walker by submission firmly in play for method-of-victory markets, even though heavyweight betting often leans toward knockouts. His four UFC heavyweight submission wins are tied for fourth-most in divisional history, behind Frank Mir, Aleksei Oleinik and Stefan Struve.

Walker has the stronger current resume and a clear route on the mat, while Petersen’s path likely relies on keeping the fight standing, making Walker work through entries and using his experience in longer UFC fights. The stakes are simple as Walker can extend the division’s longest active winning streak and keep building a case for a ranked opponent, while Petersen can halt that run and produce a result that would change his heavyweight position.
