Portugal claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chile at Estadio Nacional do Jamor, with goals from Gonçalo Guedes and Bruno Fernandes securing the friendly win despite a late fightback from the visitors.

Portugal hosted Chile in a friendly clash on June 6, 2026, looking to build momentum in their preparations for upcoming competitions. The Portuguese side dominated possession and created numerous chances throughout the match. Chile traveled to Lisbon seeking to test themselves against European opposition in a competitive encounter.

The first half unfolded with Portugal controlling the ball and dictating play. Both teams remained level at the break, though Portugal had created more opportunities. The match took a dramatic turn just before halftime when red cards flew for both Rúben Leão and Iván Román, leaving each side with ten men for the second period.

Portugal emerged from the interval with renewed intensity despite playing with a numerical disadvantage. Gonçalo Guedes broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, firing past Lawrence Vigouroux to give the hosts a crucial lead. Guedes’ clinical finish capped an impressive spell of Portuguese pressure.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 75th minute when Bruno Fernandes converted to make it 2-0. Fernandes’ goal appeared to have settled the contest for Portugal. The midfielder’s finish showcased his composure in front of goal during a dominant period.

Chile refused to surrender and pulled one back in the 92nd minute through Lucas Cepeda. Cepeda’s late goal set up a tense finale, though Portugal held firm to secure the three points. The visitors’ resilience earned them respect despite the defeat.

Portugal dominated the statistical battle, recording 18 total shots compared to Chile’s 11. The hosts registered eight shots on target against four for the visitors. Portugal’s 61% possession advantage reflected their control throughout the match.

Bruno Fernandes impressed for Portugal with a rating of 7.6, while Vigouroux kept Chile competitive with six crucial saves. Guedes earned a 7.7 rating for his goal-scoring contribution. Rúben Neves provided creative support with two key passes during his 47-minute appearance.

The victory provided Portugal with valuable match fitness and tactical work ahead of their next fixture. Chile depart Lisbon with experience gained against quality opposition. Both teams will take lessons from this competitive friendly encounter into their future campaigns.
