Those who have caught his peach-tinted ad spots, widely celebrated by fans and industry watchers, know that nothing is unseating Anthony Edwards as the lead man in the adidas Hoops roster. Beyond marketing efforts, the Three Stripes has backed up his central role with product, bracketing his adidas Anthony Edwards 2 with a takedown line (the adidas Believe That 1) and a push into lifestyle plotted for late this year (the adidas Anthony Edwards 3 Mule).

Those extracurricular exercises are exciting in their own right; don’t get us wrong. But the bread and butter for both sponsor and sponsee remains Ant’s tentpole series. That’s why the adidas Anthony Edwards 3 remains an object of fascination some five months before its expected debut. Fresh shots of  the “Cold Blooded” option deliver the latest piece of intrigue. In the name of transparency, this colorway initially emerged with low-res first look shots, but these updated angles add our highest quality preview yet.

From a pure aesthetic standpoint, this confirms the central cue for the adidas AE3: spiky side containment that builds on the “fangs” of the 2 and the honeycomb cages of the 1. As we’ve noted countless times before, adidas’ efforts have recently trending towards evolution rather than invention. A fabric base, triangular anchor at the lace stay, and a bootie-like interior maintain what’s been a well-regarded performance build in previous steps.

At the risk of burying the lede, that tech aspect is the real development. These shots confirm that Hyperboost cushioning will define the AE3, currently a cushioning tech exclusively used on the brand’s super trainers. The beaded PEBA set-up supplants Lightstrike from Ant’s first two, combining with a midfoot plate below.
