The game looked like a potentially interesting one through five innings, but the White Sox ruined things by exploding for six runs in six batters in the 6th to basically put the game away for a 6-4 victory over the Dodgers.
======
As if to piss me off as a recapper personally, the White Sox ran multiple openers to start the game. Lefty reliever Bryan Hudson started things off with a catcher’s inference and double play before Freddie Freeman hit his 11th homer of the year to make it 1-0 Dodgers.

Another lefty in Sean Newcomb got the 2nd, issuing a lead-off walk but then retiring the next seven batters he faced.
That was when bulk guy Erick Fedde entered in the 4th, immediately giving up a one-out single and a steal with two outs, but stranding that chance. A bigger chance came in the 5th with a lead-off double, but two outs only advanced it a bag, and an intentional walk to you know who was the only other thing that came of it. They got the lead-off man on again in the 6th with a walk, but despite a two-out single corning the runners, they stranded a chance again.
It would cost them, as it usually does.

On the other side, Emmet Sheehan was on the bump for the Dodgers, and he bounced back nicely from his struggle last time out.
Things began with a clean 1st for him, and he got the first two of the 2nd before hitting a batter, but that was all that came of the frame. Sheehan continued to roll in the 3rd without issue, and stranded a two-out double in the 4th. While he issued his first walk with one down in the 5th, Sheehan had the changeup working today and capitalized on it.

It all unraveled in the 6th, and quickly to boot.
Sheehan lasted just three batters, going homer, single, steal, double for another run to give the White Sox the lead.

That was it: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 8 K, 85 Pitches.
The three is up there because Jack Dreyer came in and continued to be an absolute dinger machine. He started with homer, single, and homer to basically put the game away right there at 6-1 White Sox before he was able to get an out in the 6th much less get out of it.

That should really be it for him on the roster for now until he works something out, he’s been terrible since returning from injury.
The 7th was given to Blake Treinen, who gave up just a single, and Jonathan Hernandez got a clean 8th.

As if to add insult to injury, the Dodgers did add against the White Sox pen after Fedde left. They started the 7th with a Dalton Rushing double that got to third on a wild pitch, and Alex Freeland hit a sac fly to make it 6-2 White Sox.
A bit of a silver lining, Mookie Betts hit his seventh homer of the year in the 8th to make it 6-3, which is his first multi-hit game in consecutive games this year and puts him over .200 this year.

The 9th started with a four-pitch walk to Ryan Ward, but then a frustrating strikeout by Rushing followed.
Freeland then went down in the count but battled back to double down the line in right to make it 6-4 all of a sudden.
After going down 0-2, Freeland battles back to 3-2 and hits the 9th pitch for a double to bring the tying run to the plate. pic.twitter.com/RCDvVbsxJ7

Shohei Ohtani was then basically intentionally walked to put a pair on with one out, but Andy Pages grounded up the middle for an out on a nice stop, and Freeman struck out to end it.

Shohei Ohtani giving Yoshinobu Yamamoto shit is hilarious.

45-27, sigh.
The Dodgers will now return home for a three-game series against the Rays, starting at 4:00 PM HT/7:00 PM PT/10:00 PM ET on ESPN. It’ll be Eric Lauer once again pitching for his Dodgers life, this time against Nick Martinez.
