To say that Leslie Woodson is an under-covered college football recruit would be a bit of an understatement.
Woodson is the younger brother of former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star linebacker and Butkus Award winner Jaylon Smith. He’s related to former Ohio State running back Rod Smith, and he’s also related to NFL Hall of Fame corner Rod Woodson.
Leslie Woodson has elite football running through his veins, but he’s unranked (at the moment) by 247Sports and is ranked as a three-star EDGE, according to Rivals.
247Sports hadn’t ranked him yet because, until he was offered by the Iowa State Cyclones, his only notable offers had come from MAC schools.
That one offer from ISU was a big one for the 6-foot-4, 228-pound defender out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, though, and it has put him on the map.
Other Power Four offers are sure to follow, but Woodson isn’t going to wait to find out.
He took an official visit to Ames and received an offer from Jimmy Rodgers and the Cyclones on June 12. A few days later, he committed to ISU.
