Starting Pitchers
Chase Burns
The right-handed starter has pitched at an All-Star level through 14 starts this year. Only once this year has he allowed more than two runs in a game and that came on April 10th. The last time out he threw 5.0 shutout innings against the Mets. Cincinnati has gone 10-4 in his starts.
The splits against Burns this season are big, but neither group is doing well. Right-handed hitters have been utterly helpless against him and have an OPS under .500 against him. Left-handed hitters are hitting under .200, but they are walking fairly often against him. When they do find some hits they are showing moderate amounts of power.

Elmer Rodriguez
Currently ranked as the #42 prospect in baseball by Baseball America, Rodriguez is coming up from the minor leagues to make the start today. He’s made three starts for the Yankees this year, with his last coming on May 17th when he allowed one run in 4.1 innings to the Mets. He’s yet to complete 5.0 innings as a big leaguer. He’s batted control for much of the season in both Triple-A and MLB.
Overall this year neither lefties or righties have hit him well. In his limited big league time, though, righties are hitting .357 against him – going 10-28. He’s not giving up many extra-base hits against either group, hasn’t exactly been missing bats, and his walk rate has been below-average against both groups of hitters, too. He limits damage by getting a lot of groundballs.

Another rehab update
Last night Elly De La Cruz went 0-3 with two groundouts and a strikeout while serving as the Louisville Bats designated hitter. For those worried since he was pinch hit for in the 8th, De La Cruz is in today’s lineup at shortstop for the Bats.
Terry Francona noted prior to the game that Brandon Williamson threw his first bullpen session on Saturday, which was first reported by Fox 19’s Charlie Goldsmith.
