After a day off where they were able to stay at home, the Dodgers began their series against the Orioles with a thrilling comeback win thanks to a three-run comeback in the 9th inning. They raced out to an early lead but then squandered their chances and allowed five unanswered, but they didn’t quit and mounted one last rally that they took advantage of for a 6-5 win.

======

Against struggling rookie Trey Gibson, the Dodgers got off to a quick start. A lead-off walk from Kyle Tucker was followed by a pair of outs, but a two-out double from Mookie Betts was followed by a Max Muncy single to make it 2-0 Dodgers.

Another single followed, but that would be stranded, which would unfortunately become a theme.

Not in the 2nd though, as a one-out single from Alex Freeland was cashed in by a two-out double from Andy Pages on an extremely close play at the plate that was upheld on review. 3-0 Dodgers.

That’s where the fun ended.

In the 3rd, they started with two singles and a walk to load the bases with nobody out, but then Ryan Ward, Dalton Rushing, and Freeland struck out in succession to strand the golden chance to add.

They followed by a leaving a two-out walk that got to second on a wild pitch in the 4th, then got just a two-out walk in the 5th, which allowed Gibson to survive with what looked like a decent start.

——

Not unlike his last start, Roki Sasaki started this outing looking sharp. He got some help in the 1st from Andy Pages, who cut down a lead-off single with a throw from center, helping Roki face the minimum.

He then showcased dominant stuff in a clean 2nd with a pair of strikeouts.

In fact, after the lead-off single that was thrown out, he retired the next 13 in a row before a two-out walk in the 5th that he stranded.

Unfortunately, it was the 6th again where he ran into trouble. After a lead-off single on a two-strike fastball (for whatever reason), he rebounded with a flyout on a bloop Andy caught and a strikeout to put him on the verge.

Unfortunately, he then left a split down and in to Gunnar Henderson, who yanked it into the seats for a two-run homer. Then Pete Alonso took a fastball on the inner half to left for another and the game was tied 3-3 just like that.

An incredibly dominant night fell apart in a hurry: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 90 Pitches.

Jack Dreyer entered and got the final out of the 6th, then also got the first out of the 7th, but gave up a single and that was it. Will Klein entered and sorta struggled, giving up a single against the shift, issuing a walk to load the bases up, and then giving up another single to Jeremiah Jackson at 69 (not nice) MPH to make it 5-3 Orioles before he was able to get a double play to end the frame.

Kyle Hurt did rebound for the pen in a clean 8th, and Blake Treinen did the same in the 9th.

That proved important.

——

The Orioles pen entered with the game now back on, and they worked around a one-out single thanks to Leody Tavares robbing Freddie Freeman crashing into the wall in the 6th.

A two-out double was also left in the 7th, and so was a one-out single in the 8th.

Things … didn’t seem great going into the 9th, but they were given hope when Mookie Betts hit a one-out homer off Ryan Helsley for his eighth of the year to cut it to 5-4.

That seemed to set the tone, as Max Muncy followed with a walk, and after the second out, Ryan Ward drew another walk to put a pair on. After Rushing got buried in the count 0-2, he finally got a fastball and smoked it to right to tie the game at 5-5. But then the throw got away as it was wide and the second runner scored to make it a 6-5 walk-off just like that.

======

49-27, that’s four in a row, back to a 104-win pace.

The series continues tomorrow at the same time of 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the mound after his near perfecto, and he’ll be facing Trevor Rogers.
