Fenerbahce confirm agreement to sign Man City’s Ake

Fenerbahce have announced an agreement is in place for them to sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City, in a deal reportedly worth around £7m.

Ake joined City for £41m from Bournemouth in 2020 and has won 12 trophies during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

That haul includes four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two EFL Cups and the club’s first-ever Champions League crown, in 2022-23.

Ake was a key part of Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning team in that 2022-23 campaign, playing the full 90 minutes of the Champions League final versus Inter and making 41 appearances in total that season.

The following campaign, in 2023-24, saw Ake play more games (44), make more starts (35) and tally more minutes (3,057) than he did in any other season with City, as they won their most recent Premier League title.

But Ake was always expected to follow Guardiola, midfielder Bernardo Silva and fellow centre-back John Stones through the exit door this summer, having only started 17 matches last term.

The Turkish Super Lig will be his next destination, with Fenerbahce confirming they have reached agreements with both the player and City, ahead of him linking up for their pre-season preparations.

Ake made three appearances for the Netherlands at the World Cup, as they topped a challenging group before going out to Morocco on penalties in the last 32.

Fenerbahce finished second in the Super Lig last season, three points behind arch-rivals Galatasaray.

They have not been Turkish champions since 2013-14, with their current 12-season title drought the longest in their history.
