Report: Timberwolves pursuing LeBron James after Lakers exit

LeBron James could be taking his talents to the Twin Cities.

According to Krawczynski, the Timberwolves have been in contact with James’ representatives, pitching him on playing his record-continuing 24th NBA season in Minnesota so he can team up with young superstar Anthony Edwards, the newly acquired LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert to try to win his fifth NBA title.

The idea is if James can win in Minnesota, something the Timberwolves have yet to achieve, with all the accolades he’s racked up over his illustrious career, then that should be enough to end the Greatest of All Time debate between himself and Michael Jordan.

James recently announced that after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, including a title in 2020, he would be leaving the franchise but is looking to continue his NBA career elsewhere.

On his podcast with co-host Max Kellerman Friday, Rich Paul, James’ agent, said that his most famous client likely would have signed with the New York Knicks this off-season if not for the fact that New York just won the 2026 NBA championship.

The Timberwolves have made bold moves this off-season by shipping out their second-leading scorer from last season Julius Randle, then bringing in mercurial point guard LaMelo Ball in a separate transaction at the expense of key backup Naz Reid and draft capital.

Making a run at James appears to be Minnesota general manager Tim Connelly’s boldest potential move yet.
