Boxing fans are set to be treated with a dream fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford later this year.
The pound-for-pound greats are reportedly pencilled in to face each other in September of this year, after both camps agreed to a deal that would see one of the biggest fights in boxing history take place.
It was initially reported that they would come face-to-face with one another in May, but it looks like the contest has been delayed a few months, giving both fighters some extra time to prepare.
Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh has been leading negotiations between Canelo and ‘Bud’ Crawford, as the 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska looks to capture the Mexican icon’s WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles, which will see him become a five-weight world champion.
One man who has shown an interest in the clash between Alvarez and Crawford is reigning WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.
Speaking to ESNEWS, Lopez gave his backing to the unified super middleweight king, as he expects Canelo to stop ‘Bud’ in the later rounds.
“It’s a big money fight. Overall we’ll all be winning seeing those two fight. I think it will be great.
“I think Crawford is gonna give Canelo a hard time in the beginning, but once Canelo gets a little bit comfortable in that ring, adapting to Crawford’s style, we see Canelo finishing him off in the late rounds.”
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, it has been heavily reported that the bout will take place at some point in September at the 65,000-capacity Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
