After multiple years of speculation and several stop-and-start cycles of actual traction, Giannis Antetokounmpo has a new home. Even if he’s since been surpassed in terms of being the focus of the NBA world, ironically passed by Jaylen Brown on sports pages in a ripple from a Giannis trade that wasn’t, when the regular season begins, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a bigger spectacle than the Greek Freak’s first minutes in Miami.
From Nike’s perspective, no doubt the brand is already cooking up marketing materials for the Giannis Freak 8 to capitalize on the MVP’s new South Beach digs. Yet as we await the model’s market debut, the Giannis Immortality 5 serves as his current newness, the latest stake in his affordability-focused takedown series and one that adapts the cues of the preceding Freak 7 at a lower price point.
Don’t misinterpret that to mean that the silhouette is restrained to staid, unassuming colorways, even if it carries a more simplistic package. The “Light Smoke Grey” version featured here is proof enough, mixing up a digi-camo-style upper that’s paired with equally cybernetic volt trim.
The Nike Giannis Immortality 5 “Light Smoke Grey” should be coming to Nike.com in short order, likely checking in close to its standard $85 price tag.
