WNBA: Along with Bueckers, who could the Wings pick in the 2025 draft?

The Dallas Wings won the 2025 WNBA Draft Lottery and now have the opportunity to select Paige Bueckers, a generational talent.

This is the obvious selection unless something odd happens. It’s so obvious that I will not even discuss another alternative as the top choice. Unless Bueckers stands in front of a camera and refuses to play for Dallas, they should draft her and enjoy having one of the best young players ever to enter the WNBA.

In addition to No. 1 overall, the Wings have four additional draft picks, including the No. 12 overall pick. They can either add another player to the backcourt with Bueckers or go for forward-center depth.

Here’s one player from each position who the Wings could try to bring to Dallas alongside the no-brainer Bueckers. And since the Wings also have the second pick of the second round, which is No. 14 overall, maybe they could end up with both of these prospects in addition to Paige.

Bueckers and Barker could get buckets

I think you always go with the best player available, and to get the best of both worlds, the Wings should draft Sarah Ashlee Barker of Alabama.

Barker is a certified bucket who averaged 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists during her senior year with the Crimson Tide. She ended her collegiate career with a 45-point performance against Maryland in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Sarah Ashlee Barker knocked down 3 straight free throws to force OT and finished with an Alabama women’s record 45 POINTS (17/25 FG)!

Her dynamic scoring ability, alongside Bueckers, would give the Wings two dynamic guards to help quickly bring Dallas back into contention in the WNBA.

Title game rivals to W teammates?

If the Wings want to go the forward route, perhaps Sania Feagin could be available as the final pick in the opening round. She averaged 8.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists for South Carolina as a senior.

That might not be the splashiest move, but it adds roster depth and helps satisfy a need. Feagin is a winning player from a successful program and could contribute to expediting this rebuild.

Late-round luck?

In the latter rounds, where Dallas has two third-round picks (No. 27 and No. 31 overall), it’s hard to find anyone who ultimately makes the roster, but due diligence is still needed. Maybe someone drops and you pick up a quality player. Or, Dallas can do a draft and stash with an international talent.

Regardless of who they select, as long as Bueckers ends the night rocking a Wings hat, just as she wore the net she cut down to win the national title, it will be a historic day for Dallas.
