Tyson Fury has no intention of sitting on the sidelines while the fight with Anthony Joshua comes together. If negotiations take longer than expected, the former heavyweight champion says he will simply keep fighting.
Fury explained during an interview this week that staying active has become one of his biggest priorities. Instead of waiting months between bouts, he intends to continue staging his own events if necessary.
“If my fight with Joshua doesn’t happen in the next few months, guess what I’m going to do again? I’m going to put a show on in the Isle of Man myself. I put these shows on every two minutes,” said Fury to The Stomping Ground. “When you’re not trying to make a profit, you can do anything you want, can’t you? When you got tons of money to spend and blow, you can do what you want. I could put 10 of these shows on and fight 10 times, no problem.”
Fury believes frequent activity is making him a better fighter after years of lengthy layoffs. He said this training camp followed directly after the previous one, allowing him to continue progressing instead of spending months rebuilding his conditioning.
“I want to stay match fit. I could do 12 fights. When you’re fit, and you’re ready to go, and you’re active, fighting, you become better every time you do it,” said Fury.
Fury returns Friday in Thailand against Mariusz Wach. He described the bout as another step toward sharpening his form before any future meeting with Joshua.
If Joshua defeats Kristian Prenga on Saturday, attention will quickly shift back to their proposed heavyweight fight. Fury says he will put on his own shows until the Joshua bout is ready if the process takes longer than expected.
