The Marlins took game one (2-1) against the Braves in LoanDepot park. Although the bats were asleep for most of the night, it wasn’t all bad news.
Remember when we discussed the plan Spencer Strider had to bounce back from a struggling run? Well, tonight he showed some of his best stuff of the season.
Going deep in the game through seven innings and only giving up three hits and one earned run, he also reached his 600th career strikeout. According to the Braves social team, this makes him the fastest primary starter in history to reach this feat.
Both teams had a silent offense until the fifth inning when Marlins’ Otto Lopez scored after a double from Troy Johnston.
In the bottom of the eighth is when Maximo Acosta homered for the teams’ second and final run, sealing their victory.
This was prior to the solo shot from Braves’ rookie Drake Baldwin to put the Braves on the board before the final out from Ozie Albies.
