Box Score
The Brewers kept on rolling on Tuesday night. Coming off of a 5-2 homestand with five wins in their last six games, they began a road trip in Colorado on Tuesday night. The offense stayed strong with a seven-run day, while the pitching staff limited the Rockies to one run. It all came together for their sixth win in seven games.
After both starters (Freddy Peralta and Kyle Freeland) started the game with two scoreless innings, the Brewers’ offense started firing in the third inning. The inning started with back-to-back singles from Isaac Collins and Joey Ortiz, and Brice Turang moved them over with a groundout to first. Jackson Chourio came up after that, and he stayed hot with an RBI double to score the first two runs of the game.
Chourio stole third with two outs, and that set up William Contreras. It took him 11 games, but he finally recorded an RBI with a two-out single. Rhys Hoskins kept the inning going with another single, and then Sal Frelick hit the Brewers’ fifth single (and sixth hit) of the inning to bring in Contreras. Vinny Capra came close to adding on a fifth run, but a diving stop and strong throw by Ezequiel Tovar ended the inning. Despite that, the Brewers finished the third with a 4-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Peralta kept his strong start to the season going with another good performance. Though he only pitched five innings, he limited the Rockies to just one run (a solo home run from Brenton Doyle in the third). He allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out six in the game.
The Brewers’ bullpen came in from there and it was one good inning after another. Abner Uribe took the sixth and worked around a hit and a walk for a clean sixth. He added on two strikeouts as well.
Meanwhile, the Brewers’ offense continued to add on. In the seventh, Brice Turang continues his hot start by extending his hitting streak to 11 games. It was a massive hit: a 444-foot home run to extend the lead to 5-1. It also chased Rockies’ starter Freeland out of the game.
Jimmy Herget came in to the game in relief, starting out by getting Chourio to ground out. With two outs in the inning, Yelich battled Hegret in an eight-pitch at-bat. That ended with a home run from Yelich, his second of the season.
The inning didn’t end there, though. Right after Yelich, Contreras continued the home run parade. He hit his first of the season, and the Brewers lead was up to 7-1.
The bullpen finished the game from there. Joel Payamps worked around a hit for a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts. Nick Mears made his season debut in the eighth, and he made his presence known with a two-strikeout inning. Bryan Hudson finished the game in the ninth, adding another two strikeouts. As a whole, the Brewers’ pitching staff recorded 14 strikeouts in the game.
On offense, the Brewers put together eleven hits. They were led by two-hit days from Chourio, Contreras, and Hoskins. Five of those hits went for extra bases, with Chourio recording a double and a triple in the game. It was a good day for most of the starters on offense as eight of the nine recorded hits.
The series continues tomorrow in game two of the series against the Rockies. Tyler Alexander will make his second start and will face Antonio Senzatela of the Rockies. First pitch is at 7:40 p.m. and will be on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network.
