For the first time in six weeks, the Tampa Bay Rays have won a series.
Tampa Bay got out of the matinee gate hot as the escape artist known as Chandler Simpson not only got Angels starter Tyler Anderson to try and pick off Simpson three times, he evaded the tag in a rundown on the third attempt to get granted second base after a balk.
The next batter, Junior Caminero, launched a season-high 447-foot shot to left-center field to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, Nick Fortes’s solo shot, and first Rays hit, gave the Rays a 3-0 lead.
In the third, Caminero crushed his 30th homer of the season and second in as many at-bats to give Tampa Bay a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the third, Mike Trout did what Trout does, as he hit a three-run homer to even the score at four.
In the seventh, Christopher Morel homered to left to pull the Rays ahead 5-4.
In the bottom half, newcomer Griffin Jax entered and the first three batters reached base to load them with no outs. He then proceeded to strike out the next three batters swinging to keep the Rays ahead
From there, Pete Fairbanks collects the save in the ninth and the Rays take 2/3 from the Angels.
