The Brewers’ offense is looking better by the day as spring training continues. For the fourth straight game, the offense put up seven runs, and this time, they turned it up to 11. Four home runs led the day as the Brewers blew out the Giants 11-5 on Friday afternoon.

The day didn’t look the best to start as Nestor Cortes allowed three runs on two home runs in the first two innings. He was roughed up for those three runs, allowing seven hits and two walks. One positive from the day is he struck out seven. He pitched 3 1⁄3 innings as he continued to stretch out for the regular season.

The offense came alive in the third inning as the lineup turned over for the first time. It started with an Oliver Dunn walk, then a Brice Turang single moved him into scoring position. Jackson Chourio singled after that to load the bases and set up Christian Yelich. He continued to impress in his return from back surgery, hitting his third home run of the spring. This one was a grand slam that put the Brewers ahead 4-3.

From there, the Brewers continued to add on. Two more runs came in the third thanks to singles from Turang, Chourio, and William Contreras. A solo home run in the fifth by Joey Ortiz pushed the lead out to 7-3. Marco Dignes added on a solo home run in the seventh, and Jared Oliva capped the scoring with a three-run home run three batters later.

As for the pitching staff, they looked strong following Cortes’ start. Garrett Stallings got an out in relief in the fourth. Bryan Hudson finished the fourth before pitching a scoreless fifth, allowing just a walk while striking out one. Joel Payamps pitched a clean sixth with two strikeouts, and Ryan Middendorf added two strikeouts while working around a hit in the seventh. Justin Yeager allowed a walk in a scoreless eighth. The Giants got to Josh Maciejewski in the ninth with a two-run home run, but that was all as he finished out the afternoon.

Chourio’s hot spring continued with a three-hit day, and he’s now batting .419 this spring. Brice Turang and Sal Frelick added on two-hit days. Yelich had a single hit in three at-bats, but it was the grand slam that drove in four and gave him the RBI lead for the day. Seven of the nine starters recorded a hit in the game.

The Brewers are back at it tomorrow in a split-squad day. The road team will travel to Tempe to face the Angels, with Tobias Myers set to start. Meanwhile, the home squad welcomes in the Athletics and will start Freddy Peralta. First pitch in both games is set for 3:10 p.m. The road game will be on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin, and the home game will be on the Brewers Radio Network.
